Dating/Hating stories just in time for Christina Lauren’s Dating You Hating You

As you can guess from the title, I am still very much on my rom-com train. Also there is much irony in this. As one who used to—shamefully—crap on the romance drama, I am now becoming a binge reader of it…. I stick to contemporary, which is odd because I am a such a hardcore fantasy reader. I have the goal to read a fantasy-romance soon though. Once I find the right one. I liked the characters, despite the fact that I was calling them both idiots every five seconds.

REVIEW: Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren

By: Christina Lauren. This was not that book. Evie and Carter find themselves fighting for the same position at her company after a merger. It was set up similar to The Hating Game , but was nothing like that. Instead of enemies to lovers it ended up more like friends to kinda disliking a thing they did.

And at the end of The Trouble with Hating You it said that the book about Preeti and modern dating despite the strict tradition; enemies to love trope in a clean.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life?

Can their actor clients just be something close to human? A comedic, career-focused, competitive romance story that is sure to get you laughing. Plus doses of women empowerment and equality in the workplace never hurts. Dating Hating You is written in true Christina Lauren fashion with as much steamy romance scenes one could expect from a contemporary romance.

The characters Evie and Carter are lovable from the first page. Carter also loves his career as a Hollywood agent, even moved cross-country for it, and he is pretty good at it too. When mutual friends and when a sudden business decision merges their path together, Carter and Evie engage in a somewhat friendly and have I mentioned steamy?

The following will be an open and honest review. You guys…. I have seriously come to the conclusion that I will love every single thing that these two lovely ladies put out. I first read and loved the Wild Seasons books and then quickly moved onto the Beautiful Bastard series which I also devoured. They will never cease to make you laugh, cry, and blush profusely. I definitely enjoyed this one in particular as it had some angst in the form both MCs, Carter and Evie dubbed Evil , fighting for the same position at their merged company.

They meet at a Halloween party, being segregated off to the singles only booze table, where they spend hours chatting each other up and decide they really kind of like each other. Despite their reservations about dating someone in the same profession, they have a great first date which ends with a mind blowing, making it to third base sexual experience. From that promising start, it starts to go downhill when their now joint boss, Brad, a misogynistic ass, pits them against each other in the workplace with both of them competing for the same job.

This is the same job Evie has been doing for years and doing it well. It quickly spirals down into a battle of the sexes, with neither one knowing if they want to date or hate each other.

I received this book for free from the library in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Are there degrees of humor? I must say that I expected more of the Christina Lauren team. I do wish Lauren had done a better job of notifying the reader when she was switching perspectives. I had to read for a bit to figure out who was speaking. I also found it annoying with how quickly they leap against each other.

Evie does have more of an excuse given her experiences as a woman, but still. Yeah, as a woman. That leads to the theme here of gender discrimination. There is a funny undercurrent of Evie envying people who have achieved a permanent status in life — homeownership.
